Coffee Talk......

Way too much coffee.  But if it weren't for the coffee, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever.  ~David Letterman

My name is Adrienne and I am addicted to.........coffee. It has now been four days without coffee and I feel....decaffeinated? In an effort to add some healthy choices to my life I decided to forgo it during the week, allowing myself to only have it on weekends. Now if you read my profile you know that I love coffee.....Cafe Lattes, Mocha Lattes, Caramel Macchiatos, Java, Joe, Cup of Ambition....whatever you need to call it, I need to have it.
In my previous days I would start my weekday mornings with two cups at home, followed at work by at least one, possibly two (depending on the depth of my exhaustion.)

Some (rare) mornings I would treat myself by stopping off at a local Starbucks for a Tall Pike's Place with a shot of caramel.....Heaven, I'm in Heaven....but I digress.

Sunday mornings would begin with at least one cup at home, followed by a pot at our local breakfast haunt....followed by a day of nervous energy and not in a good way. I knew I may have a problem when I friend recently introduced me to Stokd Coffee Shots. They're shots that come in tiny creamer sized container. Basically it's the equivalent of adding a shot of espresso....to your coffee. Are you sensing my issue? I know a few people who are able to begin their days with nothing caffeine related...and I'm still not entirely certain they are human. (I'm just kidding - you know I love you all, just jealous is all.)
So as a step toward improved health I have decided to attempt Herbal Teas.....according to the hype it gives you the same mental stimulation without the jitters. My morning now begins with a cup of Gogi Berry Pomegranate Green Tea (by the way...I'm exhausted just saying it.) When I arrive at work there is a cup of Morning Thunder (I kid you not on the name - it actually has a Buffalo on the package. If that isn't stimulating, I don't know what is.) So after four days I'll admit I'm not jittery but I can't say I'm bright eyed and bushy tailed either....but I am going to grind (no pun intended) away at this.....anyone have any advice, tea recommendations, permission to resume said addiction???

  1. Adrienne,
Skipping full days of caffeine will, no doubt, give you a serious head ache. You should try half caf to feed your head a little caffeine on the weekends. I thought that tea had just as much caffeine as coffee. The shotz just sound crazy. Try going to bed earlier at night.

  3. When I became a teacher, I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone every morning. People were walking around the hallways saying things like, "I'll be right back, I need my coffee" and "I can't think straight, I haven't had my coffee yet."

I decided then that I never wanted to be hooked like that! I do love my flavored coffee once in a while though. :)

  4. Adrienne,
I feel your pain. I am trying to give up dairy products...so the coffee goes cause I like it with cream. No headaches or anything but just miss the taste. And I must admit, I do indulge occasionally, but I always feel guilty when I do. Wish I had a better comment but know...you are not alone. And one more thing...herbal teas? right.............

  5. I admit I am drinking at least two cups of regular coffee each day at work and on the weekends. If I don't, I should plan on a migraine! I only drink tea for a sore throat when I am sick.....just plain thank you! Great blog again.....

  6. Here we go again we thought you were into the "coffee" just a little "Heavy" and now the truth comes out and yes "Jotter Girl" is right you can't go "Cold turkey" you have to come down 'sloowley"..........Hey we do love your blog with all the little Art illustrations and the fact that you remember all the good things we did together, how ever you did forget way back in 1984 when we took you to Ottawa to see Pope John Paul and if you can remember I had worked the night before 11:00PM to 7:00AM caught a short nap and off we went. Keep up the interesting "Blogs" we really do enjoy them.........

  7. @ Jotter - My plan is to have regular coffee on weekends and just not so much. So far no headaches though. The am tea is green which I don't think as much caffeine but the work tea says it has antioxidants and is "stimulating without the jitters." :) And BTW - the Stok wasn't affecting me in the least....LOL.
